Continually recovering from all the things.
My name is Tifani, and this is a blog where I share my experience of living a sober lifestyle and being a human who's walking around wondering "WTF?"
In 2021, I retired from a career as a hairstylist. I had worked at top salons in Oregon and California, trained with the best on both coasts, and was very good at my job. However, internally, the desire to change was getting louder. My neck and shoulders needed a break, and I was burned out. So, I quit.
Then, I decided to quit using drugs and drinking alcohol. My sobriety date is January 9th, 2022.
I believe we are all recovering from something, and that there are many ways to recover from all of it. There are practices that can make the experience more joyful and the disappointment more tolerable. For eighteen months, I worked with a coach to better understand my relationship with alcohol and how my brain works. Today, I have a network of sober individuals both in person and online. They practice recovery in various ways, providing me with support and valuable lessons.
I'm a certified yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner. I mention this to let you know that I have a lot of interests and a desire to try new things. This has led me to some interesting places and I've gone through recovery from several habits multiple times. I'm always eager to learn and constantly asking myself, "What's next for me?"
The next step for me in 2024 was becoming certified as a Life Coach and Recovery Coach through the International Association of Professional Recovery Coaches (IAPRC). I coach women online, ranging from those who are sober-curious and want to take a break from alcohol to those discovering their potential and thriving in an alcohol-free lifestyle.
Something that comes up often in recovery is the feeling that life is a game of Whack-A-Mole. What I mean is that after we quit (fill in the blank), we start eating more sugar. After we balance our sugar intake we scroll for hours online. After the social media break we spend too much money shopping and on it goes.
This is a place where I get curious about that game of Whack-A-Mole. You can expect that I’ll share resources, failures, cringey stories and the practices I find helpful now.
Thank you for reading this. I hope that you’ll return. I’ll be over here.
